Hello, friends! Thank you for your support of Okay History.
My apologies for not delivering a Friday lesson. Seemingly immediately after pressing “send” on the weekly Maundy Newsletter, I was informed by my body that I had finally caught the COVID-19 bug that had been eluding me for the past two years.
Despite the consistent mask-wearing, Omicron slipped one past the goalie. I’m grateful my case has been mild; my symptoms left by Tuesday, never to return. I have experienced a severe case of being rundown. It felt like someone woke you up from deep sleep and immediately you are attending a meeting to discuss quantum physics. I don’t know a thing about quantum physics. My brain spent two or three days not functioning past noon. My boss told me I looked hungover on a call that began at 3:00 in the afternoon.
Anonymous also tested positive, which is a demonstration of our commitment to each other. Her symptoms continue to improve. We are thankful to God for creating science people, and those science people for creating new DNA strains, and for those DNA strains that heal us. I have so much Moderna RMNA inside of me; I feel like I’m the Terminator. A Terminator who needs a nap in the late afternoon, but a Terminator, nonetheless.
Usually, I draft the Maundy Newsletter beginning on Saturday morning. Instead, I reviewed my workload, knowing it would increase by Sunday afternoon. And it did. Simply put, I have taken on much more work personally and professionally over the past two months.
OKH has been my therapy for the past year and a half. Right now, I need to take a break because it is becoming more of another task to complete rather than a respite from the responsibility of work and home. I want to continue to produce history lessons that are Okay, not terrible history stuff. I mean, who would read Terrible History unless Terrible History is devoted exclusively to the Republican Party, and you are into that sort of thing.
The more time spent here means the less time spent writing a professional white paper or balancing the family budget regularly. I need to refocus on these things for the time being. I need to make money. I also like having someone I love like me back.
Since you all have been such wonderful supporters, I want to let you know I will stop writing – for a period, but I’ll be back. I don’t want to drop off and have you wonder where I am. I can’t tell you how long my self-imposed sabbatical with be – definitely longer than a month, but presumably shorter than a year.
The next 100 days will be a whirlwind. When I return to writing regularly, I will resume lessons twice a week. In the meantime, I invite you to remember the great times we had ranking South Carolina so low or how some goobers use interesting theme music to recruit other goobers. If you are a die-hard OKH reader, who could resist relearning more about this guy?
If you need some okay history lessons that include too much passive voice, I leave you plenty of examples.
I’m so grateful for any time you spend reading my material. I’m sorry if you are a new subscriber and eagerly await the next lesson. Please do not despair; I shall return!
Until then, I hope you have a restful and relaxing summer.
Okay,
Chris
Terminator/I'll Be Back... I see what you did there! Hope you guys get better soon.
Can’t wait to see the next state rankings, in late September :)
