With regard to the government taking my house and building a highway where it used to stand, this happened to me and my childhood home when I was a teen. My father fought it doggedly (for Blue) until ours was the only house standing in the blitzed moonscape neighborhood. Yes, I get a bit cranky over eminent domain.

Oh wow. Yeah eminent domain is a bit too much for me, but I feel like the spirit of the law is to compensate you fairly.
Of course the idea that the government wanting and therefore being able to take your land is not a great feeling.
