Hey there, Okay History pals!

It’s Wednesday, and I am in your inbox. Not to worry if you missed my brief announcement at the end of the Maundy Monday Newsletter, but I’m excited to share the launch of a brand-new series that will be appearing midweek.

It’s called Even More Okay.

Okay! What is it?

Even More Okay is content exclusively for subscribers who have generously paid or pledged a subscription.

When I began writing and shifting content from my website to Substack about a year ago, I made paid options available but did not put any content behind a paywall. I am grateful to everyone who has subscribed, especially those who have decided that my history content is okay enough to pay for.

Now that I have a rhythm to my writing, I’m adding bonus content. As OKH enters the first anniversary of our first paid subscriber and our first renewal, it’s time to give back and say thanks.

Okay…is everything going behind a paywall?

Not at all! My twice-a-week emails, the Maundy Monday Newsletters, Friday’s Rankings, and Ask Me Anything will remain open to the public.

But if you are looking for additional history content – Even More Okay might be appealing.

Okay, what exactly is Even More Okay?

Even More Okay will be about subjects that interest me and I’d like to explore further. It’s outside the routine of writing about events in United States History that fall on a specific anniversary, or how I would rank important institutions in the American government and more about the time and place I have encountered certain historical subjects.

Upcoming focuses include a Confederate memorial at Arlington National Cemetery that I recently learned will be removed. I’m in South Carolina once a month, and there is plenty of fascinating history I’m coming across and would like to share. Finally, I’m discovering more subjects I want to write about in my readings and essays.

Other series will fall under the Even More Okay umbrella. My book review content, Words, Words, Words, will be the first. Technically I’ve only done one of these, and the original will stay open. But the following volumes of what I’m reading and my reviews will be for paid folks.

Finally, at the end of 2023, I will move the previous series from the free domain. That means my presidential and state rankings and all posts from 2021, 2022, and 2023, except for a select few, will be achieved behind a paywall. Beginning in 2024, the twice-a-week free postings will stay free for a week or two before being archived for paying folks, but free subscribers will continue to be able to like and comment on posts.

Okay, how often will Even More Okay be?

EMO will start out twice a month because I anticipate these to be longer pieces and need to get into a rhythm. But it will be my Wednesday offering. I’m trying not to overwhelm your inbox, but I hope you are educated and entertained.

I’m not a paid subscriber; is that Okay?

Of course! Free subscribers are okay!

Your inbox will still receive an okay history lesson twice a week. That’s still eight posts a month. Paid subscribers have been active readers and engaging community members, so I’d like to say thanks.

If you want Even More Okay and become an Okay Citizen, I’m offering a 20% get-on-board discount for one-year. Adding up all the content at the regular suggested price comes to $0.40 a post. It’s like I’m giving you a dime back for every two quarters you generously give me.

I’m not good at math. Just look at a recent conversation I had regarding my thoughts on the subject:

Anyway, click here for the discount.

If you still want to think about it, the offer will be up until Memorial Day.

Okay, anything else?

I would encourage you to download the Substack app.

Available for iOS and Android

With the announcement of Substack Notes and Twitter’s response, I plan to spend more time within the Substack community. I’m still building out my social media. I’m on Twitter and over here on Instagram. I have a Spoutible account if you have ever heard of that.

I hope you have found this publication to be a happy addition to your reading. My plan is to continue to build the OKH community and walk alongside you in exploring our history, presenting it in a way that is okay.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for reading, liking, commenting, emailing questions, and just your general support of Okay History. Thank you for your financial support, and thank you for considering your financial support. I am grateful.

Y’all are okay!

Okay,

Christopher
