If the Founding Fathers could visit America today and see the destruction that has resulted from poorly managed gun ownership rights, the way the courts have interpreted the 2nd amendment in the last couple of decades, and advocacy groups like the NRA killing common sense reform, they’d be in shock. I also suspect if they saw the military might of the modern day USA, they’d suggest rethinking an amendment that was conceived in an era where citizens were expected to bring their own weapons when they joined the Continental Army.

I left this part on the cutting room floor:

Do you think James Madison would understand the idea that a transgendered person murdered six people, including three nine-year-olds in a Christian school, with a weapon that could fire 30 to 100 bullets at a time, effectively ending of the lives of these people immediately? And that this person was able to acquire such weaponry because the Supreme Court said you said it was okay?

Chris, what does transgendered have to do with this issue? The vast majority of mass shooters are young white males. But I agree that Madison wouldn't comprehend that a person - any person - could murder so many people, including children, with such gross "efficiency." The problem is that guns now are incredibly different than guns were in the colonial era, and 2nd Amendment proponents not only ignore that reality, but they also act like 2 years olds who are trying to protect their toys. Sometimes I wonder if they are all narcissists and selfish brats who put their own petty wants above the safety of other citizens. Pretty much.

I agree. My point in describing the killer is the world is much more complicated, much more inclusive. Explaining the entire situation to James would have probably blown his mind.
